Video: White Supremacy + Dating

We had such a great time at our fundraising event on June 29th, 2021. Big thanks to Amalia Miralrio for her wisdom and time, and to Healing by Choice for making an appearance and teaching us about their organization.

All together as a community, we raised $760 for Healing by Choice. How do they use this money? They have a team of practitioners, all women or gender non-conforming individuals, who provide healing services to under-served communities. Community members in need are able to pay what they can, and donations like ours supplement that payment so that Healing by Choice practitioners can continue to provide services this way. Great business model, right? It’s vulnerable and it’s brave.

In the training, we discussed how Healing by Choice provides mainstream as well as “alternative” healing services. Because of a dominant culture in our country, only those healing services that are considered legitimate are going to get funded. This doesn’t quite add up though when a specific individual, culture or community has proven healing approaches that are simply not mainstream. How do they then get those funded by insurance, Medicaid, or other resources? It causes a significant gap in who heals and how.

Events like this wouldn’t be possible without the skill and generosity of anti-racism clinicians like Amalia. She took significant time preparing her content, promoting it on social media, and spending the hour of the event with us as well. There are a million ways she can spend her time (and get paid for it, no less) but she chose to step into fundraising shoes and help a good cause.

And thanks to all of YOU for coming and supporting this important work!
